Healing with Colours part 2

Healing Power of Colour Therapy

taken from Sufi-Master Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi

Every person is under the influence of one colour or another, and s/he sees life through the filter/glass of that colour. Yet, people don’t normally think about colours. We are inspired by viewing pictures and paintings but don’t give much attention toward the nature of colours.

If we become more aware of the reality that colours are actually important to our lives and our perspective on life, then gradually the deeper mysteries of our own selves will be revealed.

The colour we choose for our apparel and home are the result of our deep, natural interest in those colours. The colours we use for our apparel create an effect on our environment. We choose the colour of our clothes through inner inspiration, which tells us which colour will be good for us.

It is possible that a colour we do not like at this point in time may look good to us a year from now. This change indicates that the flow of colours/light in our inner core has changed.

If we pay close attention to which colours are present in our environment, what colour of clothes we normally wear, and the colour of our food, then we will realize that ”Our life is nothing but colours.”

The light, heat, and colour of vibrant rainbow waves create effective vibration on all living tissue. These frequencies create different effects on the tissues. Therefore, with the help of colours, every disease inherited since the beginning of mankind can be treated.

All colours discharge pulsing light waves, which create the feeling of either cold or heat after colliding with an object. The wave length of the colour red is the longest due to the slow wave frequency, and the wave length of the colour purple is the shortest, due to the fast frequency.

Red creates the feeling of heat, while a sky blue colour creates the effect of coldness. Green is the colour that creates balance. Blue creates the feeling of spaciousness in the environment, while the density of red limits its frequency and movement.

Different colours create different feelings and effects (e.g., burning and itching by red, warming effect from orange, light warming from yellow, green feels no warm no chill, and jujube affects cold with pinching feeling.) Colour creates feelings
of byte, cut, hurt, crush or hit, or sting as well.

Through experience it has been seen that patients of stress and sleeplessness are fast cured with purple, blue & turquoise blue colours.

Red, orange and yellow colours are invigorating and help combat
laziness and weakness. Colour Therapists beleive that putting patients in a pink colour environment subdues the emotions of violence and revenge.

Pink acts as a tranquilizer for veins and muscles. The effects of pink are now used to balance sex, family dis
putes, business matters, and jails. Through the pink colour, anger is lowered. Under pink, muscles don’t experience stress and tension. Even blind people feel relaxed in pink coloured rooms.

One day while doing pranayama and contemplating colours and their
effect on the body, I received intuition that sunlight includes all colours, and these colours fulfill our nutritional requirements. If we store sunlight in our biological system, then it can fulfill our nutritional requirements.

Following this inspiration I began to sit facing towards East before sunrise and through breathing pointed my mind towards a specific aliment of my body and imaginatively directed sun rays into my stomach.

As a result there was no need for food except for water and neither did I feel any weakness. However while walking I felt much lighter and it was as if I was walking in space, and solid walls looked like as if they were made of paper.

Sunlight has minerals and gases included in it, both of which are an important component of hum
an food. Food gives us energy and strength. If we use food and light (combination of colours) together it increases this energy two fold.

The best way to absorb colours is to use fruits and vegetables. The sunlight is directly absorbed into fruits and vegetables.

However, we have to ensure a colour balance in our diet by not over-cooking or deep frying our fruits and vegetables because nutrition value contained in the colours is lost during this process.

Colour Therapy: RED
Red Rays are found in Iron, Zinc, Copper, Potassium, Oxygen, Beet, Radish, Spinach, Red cherry & Red covered fruits.

In this colour the emotions of deep interest, will-power, and passion are involved. During life crises when relationships come to an end and expectations are broken and no o
pinion or plan works, the colour Red becomes predominant in the core-center of mind. When the mind is under the influence of Red, everything seems to be red.

The imbalance of Red in the red-colour center (the mind) is proof of abnormal emotional attachment
s or spoiled emotions.

People who posses the colour Red in balance help other people; these types of people worry about Humanity and their race. They utilize all their abilities in their favorite activities.

People under the influence of Red lead a good
life. Since they cannot control themselves regarding eating, drinking, and other matters, they are often overweight.

We necessarily pass through an era of life when the colour Red is more predominant than all the other colours. It is usually during adolescence that the colour Red becomes very powerful. It is an interesting thing that in boxers oxidized red colour is dominant.

A person with prevailing Red colour takes special care of his/her health. Predominant Red colour people are also interested in bodybuilding.

This colour stimulates emotions, produces happiness, and is full of life. In today’s lifestyle people mostly spend their time sitting in cars, in-front of televisions, or in offices and don’t exercise.

The excess of Red causes a tendency towards a s
cattered-mind, anger, peevishness, displeasure, and tyranny towards people.

The nature or temper of Red is warm. This colour has a more constructive ability. This colour creates an impulse in blood: if red colour is displayed on the back bone in anemia pati
ents then the number of R.B.C (Red Blood Cells) is increased.

If a part of the body is paralyzed, then emitting Red rays on that part increases the flow of blood, and the nervous system becomes normal. If the same rays are cast upon the navel and upper limb, then it creates stimulation in stiff veins.

Redness in the yellow epicenter increases stomach pain. The increase of red in the lower center of the throat is the cause of swelling tonsils and scratchiness in the throat.

 Colour Therapy:GREEN

Green colour exists in Nickel, Chromium, Cobalt, Platinum, Aluminum, Chlorophyll, and several vegetables & green covered fruits.

Green is a Tranquilizing colour. Predominantly Green coloured people are full of love, and the rays of love spread from them, which mak
es the environment lighter. Other people are madly in love with Green coloured people. People with prevalent green colour are often farmers and gardeners.

Because the Green colour is created with the combination of Yellow & Sky-Blue colours, minds of people
under the influence of Green colour remain very active.

They listen attentively to other people’s opinions. People come to them in large numbers to tell them their problems and ask for solutions. These Men/Women love kids and animals and they are happy in their company.

The teachers of nursery classes have this colour in them in good quantity. Due to the blending of Sky-Blue colour, these people have a special relationship with water, lakes, rivers, and oceans.

By temperament they are very balanced and don’t get angry very often, but due to being soft-hearted they are often shocked and hurt quickly. They tend to wear light-coloured clothes. Green coloured people are never satisfied with their work. They like to explore new grounds and they are very determined.

If the Green colour becomes excessive in the Yellow center of the Stomach, then not only these people not only become emotional but also become worried of other people’s conditions. Such people are easily affected by every feeling of life, and keep think
ing about past experiences, which can lead to stress on the stomach.

Deficiency of Green-ness in the core-center of the mind becomes the cause of one-sided behaviors.

If Green becomes more deficient then normal in the throat, it creates harshness in co
nversation, and if it’s in excess of normal, the conversation becomes so soft that other people use Green-centered people for their own purposes.

The colour Green is highly-effective for helping with the nervous system and high blood pressure. This colour
in itself contains the characteristics of an elixir for healing wounds. It is the panacea for patients of ulcers. Most of the Vegetables are Green coloured; if they are taken in any form, cooked or un-cooked, the effects of the Green colour are inhaled into the body.

A combination of Green and Blue colours creates Turquoise-Blue; this colour energizes skin tissues. This colour is the best cure for burnt skin from sunlight and itching. It creates a tightness in wrinkled skin which defies age and enhances the at

Purple colour contains equal quantities of Red & Blue colours.

Predominantly Purple coloured people are sensitive and express this sensitivity in different ways. Purple is the colour of Artists and Painters. Until, and unless, we have some quantity of purple in our selves we cannot sense beauty.

If the ratio of Red colour is higher in the Purple colour, the expression of it will be seen as an inclination towards sex; however, if Blue colour’s ratio is more, then situation will be opposite. Sometimes these people are lost in themselves, which often happens with good artists.

There is more Spiritual potential in purple-coloured people. If their third eye is opened, then they can see the Hidden (Ghayb). In these people the passion of constructiveness is present at all times.

They think less for themselves and more for humanity and are always worried that somehow humanity should benefit from their presence. They don’t want to waste even five minutes of their lives.

Sky-Blue dominant people are God-fearing servants of humanity, thinkers of the signs of God, and lovers of Prophets and saints of God. The men/women of this colour believe in the thinking-approach of prophets. They preach equality, brotherhood, and keep away from dissension.

Sky Blue has more importance when compared to the other colours. The temper/effect of this colour is cold. This is the opposite of Red. This colour is very effective in treating Fever, reducing Psychological Stress, balancing a shooting pulse, and relaxing the mind.

How Colours Affect Us

Colour is one of the languages of the soul, just look at inspired or meditative paintings.
They influence our mood and emotions.
They have their impact on our sense of well-being or un-easiness.
Using and avoiding certain colours is a way of self-expression; it sheds light on our personality.
Colours affect our way of perception (light colours make a space look big, a high ceiling looks less high when painted in a dark colour, etc.)
Colours have a symbolic meaning which is immediately recognized by our subconsciousness. It must be said that not all colours mean the same to all persons and all cultures.
They influence the flow and amount of energy in our bodies.
Colours tell something about biological attraction and sexual interests.

Before examining colour and its healing implications, we must address a very important concept: that of cause and effect. True healing comes about when the cause of the condition or illness is addressed and transformed. If healing goes no further than a mere relief or masking of the symptoms, then, eventually, that which brought about the need for healing, in the first place, will resurface and manifest itself within the body in one form or another.

Body is an outward expression of that which is taking place within the mind, the soul (subconscious) , and the spirit (superconscious) of the individual. Thus, any healing technique which deals only with the physical body and the energy field of the individual tends to accomplish one thing: it jump starts the individual, so to speak, and gives him or her an added boost of energy. That energy boost then allows that person's own internal healing mechanism to become mobilized into greater activity.

Keeping this in mind, let us look at how colour can help jump-start the tired or diseased body. Colour healing, known as Chromotherapy, can be implemented in a number of ways. The ancients built great halls of colour healing, where individuals entered and were bathed in light that was filtered through various coloured glass panels or windows.

Energy (spiritual) healers often supplement their healing work with colour healing. As they lay their hands on the patient, they mentally direct specific colour rays into the patient's aura and body. Oftentimes, the colour used is inspired by the superconscious.

In healing colours act as balancers: we administer the colour(s) someone needs more of, or we give the opposite of the colour someone has too much of.

A preference for certain colours can point at two things:
Self-expression (you choose the colours which match your personality; for instance green for a lover of harmony and nature) completion (you choose the colours you need more of; for instance an active, passionate person chooses blue colours to cool down his nature). An aversion against certain colours gives information as well.

Red is stimulating and dominant. It can be extremely vitalizing and can assist in overcoming inertia, depression, fear and melancholy. It is a great aid to those who are afraid of life and feel like escaping. Red is power. It is the colour of adrenalin, fire, zest and drive. It is physical energy. It is passionate and exciting. Red supplies the energy and motivation necessary to reach goals. It is a 'doing' colour which can actually activate activity and physical strength.

Red reduces the size of rooms and increases the size of objects. It is useful as an accent colour. Red is not the best colour for a bedroom, you might find it difficult to rest in this stimulating colour. However, you might find that your desire for sensual excitement expands in a red bedroom. Red in a work room or exercise room, or even a living room stimulates movement and activity. It is not really suitable for dining rooms or children's bedrooms. If you are a procrastinator or in a sluggish time in your life, paint a wall red (use a crimson, scarlet or even a hot red or rust, rather than a dark maroon or muddy red) and get ready to take off!

Red energizes heart and blood circulation, it builds up the blood and heightens a low blood pressure. Energizes all organs and the senses hearing, smell, taste, vision and touch. Orange is a powerful and cheerful colour. It is a happy, social colour. It encourages communication and its positive qualities are happiness, concentration, confidence, optimism, self-motivation, change, striving, emotional balance and enthusiasm. Its negative is rebelliousness. Orange is good in any room where you will be having group gatherings or where people will gather to have fun and socialise. Introduce a warm pumpkin orange feature into a room where projects are being done. Use in living and dining rooms and hallways but not in small rooms or bedrooms.

Healing properties: Orange is warm, cheering, non-constricting. Orange has a freeing action upon the body and mind, relieving repressions. Orange shows new possibilities and other options in life. Stimulates creative thinking and enthusiasm, and helps assimilate new ideas. It is also helpful in dealing with excess sexual expression.

Green symbolizes growth, fertility and harmony; it is restful and refreshing. Green stimulates feelings of balance, freedom, harmony, hope, growth and healing. It is found everywhere in nature, symbolizing the replenishing forces of the universe. Green reminds us that there will always be enough. Often in hospitals the medical professionals wear green. Its negatives are envy and deceit.

This is a good colour in any room. It is restful and energizing. I like to have some green in the bathroom - green towels or green plants, or even green trim or a wall. The bathroom is a room of symbolic purification and renewal so green is perfect for this room. To uplift a room introduce a bright spring green or a clear, clean leaf-green touch rather than a khaki or muddy green. Green is usually best in in therapy rooms, conservatories and bathrooms but not in family rooms, playrooms or studies.

Not really suitable for family rooms, dining rooms and studies. If you suffer from a feeling of melancholy then maybe you have too much blue in your living space.

Healing properties: Blue is cooling, electric, astringent. Dr. Edwin Babbitt, in his classic, "The Principles of Light and Colour," states that "The Blue Ray is one of the greatest antiseptics in the world."

Violet / Purple

Purple encourages vitality and is impressive, dignified and spiritual. Positive associations are excitiement, passion and motivation. Negatives are mournfulness and force. When a person chooses purple as a favourite colour, they are usually abstract, inspired and able to tune into the inner world. Purple stimulates our spiritual perspective and intuition.

Purple is such a powerful colour that I suggest using it as an accent colour rather than in large amounts. It can be diluted with white to make a soft shade of lavender or lilac - this is excellent for a meditation room or a room where you want to feel healed, particularly spiritual healing. Splashes of gold or yellow is a good balance to purple. Suitable for bedrooms but not bathrooms or kitchens. Use in bedrooms and meditation rooms but not in bathrooms or kitchens.
