Healing Power of Colour Therapy
Every person is under the influence of one colour or another, and s/he sees life through the filter/glass of that colour. Yet, people don’t normally think about colours. We are inspired by viewing pictures and paintings but don’t give much attention toward the nature of colours.
If we become more aware of the reality that colours are actually important to our lives and our perspective on life, then gradually the deeper mysteries of our own selves will be revealed.
The colour we choose for our apparel and home are the result of our deep, natural interest in those colours. The colours we use for our apparel create an effect on our environment. We choose the colour of our clothes through inner inspiration, which tells us which colour will be good for us.
It is possible that a colour we do not like at this point in time may look good to us a year from now. This change indicates that the flow of colours/light in our inner core has changed.
If we pay close attention to which colours are present in our environment, what colour of clothes we normally wear, and the colour of our food, then we will realize that ”Our life is nothing but colours.”
The light, heat, and colour of vibrant rainbow waves create effective vibration on all living tissue. These frequencies create different effects on the tissues. Therefore, with the help of colours, every disease inherited since the beginning of mankind can be treated.
All colours discharge pulsing light waves, which create the feeling of either cold or heat after colliding with an object. The wave length of the colour red is the longest due to the slow wave frequency, and the wave length of the colour purple is the shortest, due to the fast frequency.
Red creates the feeling of heat, while a sky blue colour creates the effect of coldness. Green is the colour that creates balance. Blue creates the feeling of spaciousness in the environment, while the density of red limits its frequency and movement.
Different colours create different feelings and effects (e.g., burning and itching by red, warming effect from orange, light warming from yellow, green feels no warm no chill, and jujube affects cold with pinching feeling.) Colour creates feelings of byte, cut, hurt, crush or hit, or sting as well.
Through experience it has been seen that patients of stress and sleeplessness are fast cured with purple, blue & turquoise blue colours.
Red, orange and yellow colours are invigorating and help combat laziness and weakness. Colour Therapists beleive that putting patients in a pink colour environment subdues the emotions of violence and revenge.
Pink acts as a tranquilizer for veins and muscles. The effects of pink are now used to balance sex, family disputes, business matters, and jails. Through the pink colour, anger is lowered. Under pink, muscles don’t experience stress and tension. Even blind people feel relaxed in pink coloured rooms.
One day while doing pranayama and contemplating colours and their effect on the body, I received intuition that sunlight includes all colours, and these colours fulfill our nutritional requirements. If we store sunlight in our biological system, then it can fulfill our nutritional requirements.
Following this inspiration I began to sit facing towards East before sunrise and through breathing pointed my mind towards a specific aliment of my body and imaginatively directed sun rays into my stomach.
As a result there was no need for food except for water and neither did I feel any weakness. However while walking I felt much lighter and it was as if I was walking in space, and solid walls looked like as if they were made of paper.
Sunlight has minerals and gases included in it, both of which are an important component of human food. Food gives us energy and strength. If we use food and light (combination of colours) together it increases this energy two fold.
The best way to absorb colours is to use fruits and vegetables. The sunlight is directly absorbed into fruits and vegetables.
However, we have to ensure a colour balance in our diet by not over-cooking or deep frying our fruits and vegetables because nutrition value contained in the colours is lost during this process.

How Colours Affect Us
Colour is one of the languages of the soul, just look at inspired or meditative paintings.
They influence our mood and emotions.
They have their impact on our sense of well-being or un-easiness.
Using and avoiding certain colours is a way of self-expression; it sheds light on our personality.
Colours affect our way of perception (light colours make a space look big, a high ceiling looks less high when painted in a dark colour, etc.)
Colours have a symbolic meaning which is immediately recognized by our subconsciousness. It must be said that not all colours mean the same to all persons and all cultures.
They influence the flow and amount of energy in our bodies.
Colours tell something about biological attraction and sexual interests.
Before examining colour and its healing implications, we must address a very important concept: that of cause and effect. True healing comes about when the cause of the condition or illness is addressed and transformed. If healing goes no further than a mere relief or masking of the symptoms, then, eventually, that which brought about the need for healing, in the first place, will resurface and manifest itself within the body in one form or another.
Body is an outward expression of that which is taking place within the mind, the soul (subconscious) , and the spirit (superconscious) of the individual. Thus, any healing technique which deals only with the physical body and the energy field of the individual tends to accomplish one thing: it jump starts the individual, so to speak, and gives him or her an added boost of energy. That energy boost then allows that person's own internal healing mechanism to become mobilized into greater activity.
Keeping this in mind, let us look at how colour can help jump-start the tired or diseased body. Colour healing, known as Chromotherapy, can be implemented in a number of ways. The ancients built great halls of colour healing, where individuals entered and were bathed in light that was filtered through various coloured glass panels or windows.
Energy (spiritual) healers often supplement their healing work with colour healing. As they lay their hands on the patient, they mentally direct specific colour rays into the patient's aura and body. Oftentimes, the colour used is inspired by the superconscious.
In healing colours act as balancers: we administer the colour(s) someone needs more of, or we give the opposite of the colour someone has too much of.
A
preference for certain colours can point at two things:
Self-expression (you choose the colours which match your personality; for instance green for a lover of harmony and nature) completion (you choose the colours you need more of; for instance an active, passionate person chooses blue colours to cool down his nature). An aversion against certain colours gives information as well.

Blue
Blue is peaceful and soothing and linked with spirituality, contemplation, mystery and patience. It stimulates you to seek inner truth. Blue helps you to attain inner peace and to live out your ideals. It allows for gentleness, contentment and composure. Its positive associations are trust, faithfulness and stability. Negatives are suspicion and melancholia. Blue has also been used for pain reduction.
A warm, light blue bedroom is good for relaxing a hyperactive child. Blue can be used in meditation rooms, bedrooms, therapy rooms and as a means of enlarging spaces. Not really suitable for family rooms, dining rooms and studies. If you suffer from a feeling of melancholy then maybe you have too much blue in your living space.
Healing properties: Blue is cooling, electric, astringent. Dr. Edwin Babbitt, in his classic, "The Principles of Light and Colour," states that "The Blue Ray is one of the greatest antiseptics in the world."
Cools down inflammations (don't forget rheumatic inflammations), fever, high blood pressure, stops bleedings, reliefs the bursting headaches, calms strong emotions like anger, aggression or hysteria. Brings tranquility. Anti-itching. Anti-irritation (for instance redness of the skin), anti-stress. Soothes suffering.
Blue can be used for any type of ailments associated with speech, communication, or the throat. Excellent forlaryngitis or inflammation of the larynx.

Violet / Purple
Purple encourages vitality and is impressive, dignified and spiritual. Positive associations are excitiement, passion and motivation. Negatives are mournfulness and force. When a person chooses purple as a favourite colour, they are usually abstract, inspired and able to tune into the inner world. Purple stimulates our spiritual perspective and intuition.
Purple is such a powerful colour that I suggest using it as an accent colour rather than in large amounts. It can be diluted with white to make a soft shade of lavender or lilac - this is excellent for a meditation room or a room where you want to feel healed, particularly spiritual healing. Splashes of gold or yellow is a good balance to purple. Suitable for bedrooms but not bathrooms or kitchens. Use in bedrooms and meditation rooms but not in bathrooms or kitchens.
