10. Music Therapy in Islam and Healing with Music
Music Therapy Healing-(through Hadra) and Rose Healing power
Its known the Muslim Turks would use Music to heal souls through natural sounds and dhikr as "Music therapy heals sicknesses such Depression" a simple method from the Sufi masters is to bring nature to you and if you can't travel to the countryside and see the power of healing in nature then decorate the house with flowers, which flowers? Well Roses.
The benefits of Rose
Why roses well "Roses give out salawat ala Rasul" which gives solace to sick hearts and the reason why roses is because in Energy Healing with Essential Oils (essential oil is the fragrance essence that is contained within the flower or plant and has been extracted for use and the healing effect of the essential oils from flowers lies in triggering the body to heal itself by initiating the normal biochemical and physical functioning of the body) Rose Carries the Highest Vibrational Frequency of all living things. All beauty smells are from heaven they come down from heaven and we enjoy there aroma and once that is gone it goes back to heaven. Bees use the blessings of flowers and are said to read salawat and thus honey is called Shifa-Cure as bees read salawat while making honey.
We need to understand what the power of healing is and how that works with vibrational frequency. It is said that the healthy human body Resonates at a Frequency ranging from 62 to 78 MHz while disease begins at 58 MHz. While processed foods have a zero MHz; fresh produce peaks at 27 MHz; fresh herbs 2 to 27 MHz, dried herbs 12 to 22 MHz. Now Essential oils created with herbs start at 52 MHz and range as high as 320 MHz. Rose oil has the highest frequency at 320 MHz. So by applying Rose Oil on a sick person or yourself if your feeling down it will boost your low level vibrational frequency to a higher one and thus the healing process starts.
Note:If you going to buy rose to apply on the body you need essential oil is for the body which is expense were as Rose frangrance oil is used for burning in an oil burner and are cheap.
In order to activate the pineal gland, Sufi meditation-Dhikr must be must done regularly. It takes time to empower this gland and to activate it and use it. The Zen Buddhist use the term chakra (In Sufism its called Lataif) the Zen Buddhist talk about opening the (6th chakra in yoga or 3rd Eye on your forehead which in Islam is the Sajda-prostration area interesting enough) and they say both of these glands are stimulated through to get to the next level the opening of the 7th chakra crown meditation which is above the head. So a simple sufi trick to simulate that area is to applying Rose Oil on your forehead and the sides of head this will stimulate and help to boost The pineal gland and then do Dhikr.
The sense of smell of the five senses is the only hardwired to the brain.
The sense of smell (or olfaction) and is located in the same part of our brain that effects emotions, memory, and creativity. we can distinguish over 10,000 different odor molecules.
When we inhale these odor molecules travel into the nose and interact with odor receptors. The odor receptors then transmit the information to the olfactory bulb, which is located in the brain’s limbic system. The limbic system also controls memory and emotions, and is connected to the pituitary gland and hypothalamus area that controls the release of hormones that affect our appetite, nervous system, body temperature, stress levels, and concentration.
Smells leave long-lasting impressions and are strongly linked to your memories and this is why through smell or using aromatherapy essential oils we can help to unlock memories and heal and by simtulating the pituitary gland this will help to open our spirituality and the deeper memories of soul and remember-(dhikr) when we in front of Allah in heaven-jannah. God said, “Alastu bi Rabbikum (Am I not your Lord)?” Hence, it is called the Yawm Alastu (Day of Alastu)
The first dhikr was given by God when he addressed people on the Day of the Primordial Covenant, saying, “alastu bi Rabbikum?, “Am I not your Lord?”. This entered people’s hearts, so when they hear dhikr the secrets of their hearts appear, and performing dhikr brings their hearts back to the moment of the Day of Alastu, when hearts were given spiritual nourishment. When man performs dhikr, in permanent recollection, he may reach the stage where he recollects that day, and in recollection the created disappears and only God remains.
The day of the Primordial Covenant, or the Day of Alastu. That day only God existed.
“When your Lord took out the offspring from the loins of the Children of Adam and made them bear witness about themselves, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ (alastu bi Rabbikum?), and they replied, ‘Yes, we bear witness’(balâ shahidna). So you cannot say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘We were not aware of this’.” (Qur'an 7:172)
The benefits of Frankincense
Frankincense (‘Lubbaan’ in Arabic) is mentioned in
one of the chapters of Tibb an Nabi (book of prophetic medicine)
**Forgetfulness and Weak Memory And Sunnah of Frankincense***
The authentic prophetic traditions report that a man complained to Allah’s Blessed Messenger (peace be upon him) about forgetfulness, and was advised, “Use frankincense, for it invigorates the heart with courage and it is a remedy for forgetfulness.”
Frankincense (‘Lubbaan’ in Arabic) is an aromatic resin produced by a certain genus of trees grown mainly in Yemen, Somalia and Oman, and is traditionally used in perfumes, incense and as a medicine.
It is
reported that Ibn Abbaas (may God be pleased with him) used to drink a mixture
of powdered frankincense, water and sugar on an empty stomach. Someone once
complained to Anaas (ra) about a weak memory, and Anaas replied, “Soak
frankincense overnight in water, and drink the solution in the morning on an
empty stomach, for it benefits the memory.”
A 'tea' can also be made by tying the frankincense resin in a small cloth like a piece of muslin, and adding it to boiling water. Let the water simmer for around 5 min before extracting the frankincense and allowing the tea to cool down before drinking.
The
application of this remedy has a simple and clear reasoning. Mild amnesia,
forgetfulness or a weak memory of past experiences, events or words results
from a corrupt humour somewhere in the body. This corrupt humour affects
different parts of the brain, causing ill-disposition, particularly in people
with cold, damp temperaments. This condition produces defective memory and thus
blocks the brain’s natural ability to retain messages in sequence or to store
information.
Frankincense, which contains the opposite attributes, thus helps to repair and balance the bodily humours. This helps ultimately to remove the blockage and restore the memory. Amongst the other numerous benefits of frankincense; it aids the treatment of tuberculosis, stomach ache and diarrhoea, and it helps the digestion, helps expel wind, relieve eye sores / refreshes the eyes, treats infections and helps heal cuts and bruises when used in a bandage. It also helps treat a speech impediment (both tongue-tie and stuttering). Burning frankincense helps repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.

Frankincense: Could it be a cure for
cancer?
Cancer hope
Scientists have observed that there is some agent
within Frankincense which stops cancer spreading, and which induces cancerous
cells to close themselves down. He is trying to find out what this is.
"Cancer starts when the DNA code within the cell's nucleus becomes
corrupted," he says. "It seems Frankincense has a re-set function. It
can tell the cell what the right DNA code should be. "Frankincense
separates the 'brain' of the cancerous cell - the nucleus - from the 'body' -
the cytoplasm, and closes down the nucleus to stop it reproducing corrupted DNA
codes."
Working with
Frankincense could revolutionise the treatment of cancer. Currently, with
chemotherapy, doctors blast the area around a tumour to kill the cancer, but
that also kills healthy cells, and weakens the patient. Treatment with
Frankincense could eradicate the cancerous cells alone and let the others live.
The task now is to isolate the agent within Frankincense which, apparently,
works this wonder. Some ingredients of Frankincense are allergenic, so you
cannot give a patient the whole thing.
Dr Suhail
(who is originally from Iraq) has teamed up with medical scientists from the
University of Oklahoma for the task. In his laboratory in Salalah, he
extracts the essential oil from locally produced Frankincense. Then, he
separates the oil into its constituent agents, such as Boswellic acid.
"There are 17 active agents in Frankincense essential oil," says Dr
Suhail. "We are using a process of elimination. We have cancer sufferers -
for example, a horse in South Africa - and we are giving them tiny doses of
each agent until we find the one which works." "Some scientists
think Boswellic acid is the key ingredient. But I think this is wrong. Many
other essential oils - like oil from Sandalwood - contain Boswellic acid, but
they don't have this effect on cancer cells. So we are starting afresh."
Hadra: is a form of Resonance or Vibrational Healing for the Soul.
Note about Hadra as a somatic experience that heals trauma:
The hadra cures and 'heals traumatic states' that
the modern world and its people have given our poor souls as Sidi Hakim
Archuletta-(who has worked within the healing arts profession for over 30
years). talks about using the hadra as a cure.
We are all traumatized in some degree or another
and are victims of violence, abuse; physical or verbal and so need a 'sufic
somatic experience' to help. Soma refers to the body and somatic refers to the
body experienced 'from the inside' and includes thoughts, emotions, and
sensations, its about being 'in the moment' and by focusing on sensations,
tensions, finding relaxation, using breath, movement, inner wisdom can come to
the surface.(all this and more is experienced in the Hadra).
"There's just something about music
particularly live music/sound or even an Higher form using the Sufi chanting and movement called Hadra as a form of healing,
that excites and activates the body", this because Singing familiar songs
is psychologically and emotionally uplifting.
Sufi Chanting of Hayy, Hu, Allah:
Chanting, the first step to meditation, is also a means of maintaining health
and well-being. Research shows that chanting can stabilize heart rate, lower
blood pressure, improve circulation, produce endorphins and aid the process of
metabolism. Chanting can also help the mind focus, which alleviates stress
levels. For example, repeating the name
"Allah" considered one of the most important sufi
meditation, is said to foster a deep mental clarity and promote a sense of
connectedness with a higher power.
Sound is
a vibration and the body is 70% water and that vibration effects that
body as it resonates through the body in a ripple effect.
The human voice and
saying Allah, hu,hayy or singing Qasaid and using a Duff-drum will resonate to
stimulate healing, this is called Music or Sound therapy, its Lateef-subtle-energy therapies that make up
the field of vibrational medicine. According to the law of physics, everything
vibrates: the chair you’re sitting in, the food you eat, the rocks and trees.
Whether or not we hear it, everything has a sound, a vibration all its own,
even your heart and soul and they give off an colour an aura that some see too.
Sound is called resonance, the frequency at
which an object naturally vibrates. Each part of our bodies has its own natural
resonance, and vibrational medicine
is based on the idea that disease is a result of those natural resonances
getting out of tune – whether due to stress, illness or environmental factors.
As opposed to the highly focused and fast
vibrations used in ultrasound (a technology already employed in hospitals to
break up kidney stones and check on the health of fetuses, for example), Dhikr
or sound therapy works more gently-(Lutf). But just as powerfully – to return
the body’s own vibrations to their natural states. Thus Dhikr is an
extraordinarily powerful healing therapy for those who are allow their sense of
hearing to create an “environment” in which healing can take place.
Two
Scientific lessons about our bodies and the barakah of always being positive
and increasing with dhikr and not being in the state of spiritual stagnation.
1. The human body is made up of more
than 70% water
The human body is made up of more than 70% water.
The blood is more than 80%, the brain more than 75%, and the liver is 96%
water! The human body is a water machine, designed primarily to run on water
and minerals. Every life-giving and healing process that happens inside the
body happens with water.
Our energy level is greatly affected by the amount
of water we drink. It has been medically proven that just a 5% drop in body
fluids will cause a 25% to 30% loss of energy in the average person and a 15%
drop in body fluids causes’ death! And lack of clean water will cause disorder,
chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety, depression and more. Thus the quantity and
quality of the water we drink has a dramatic impact on our health. To get out
of spiritual stagnation I needs quality
Ibaadah-worship for the soul and body which gives movement and
nourishment and positive thoughts and duas also changes ones energy levels too.
2. Scientifically positive words,
prayers and thoughts over water affect our molecular structure.
From Dr. Masaru
Emotos a Japanese sciences provided with factual evidence, that
human vibration energy, thoughts, words, ideas and music, affect the molecular
structure of water, the very same water that comprises over 70% of a mature
human body and the same amount (70%) also covers our planet. Water is the very
source of all life on this planet, its quality and reliability are vitally
important to all forms of life. The body is very much like a sponge and is
composed of trillions of chambers called cells that hold liquid. The quality of
our life is directly connected to the quality of our water. And again having
the correct positive duas will increase ones well being and spiritual aura or some called it our etheric
energy. Just look as the barakah of doing wudu it washes away sins that we
commit.
Some extra notes about vibration
The healing power of vibration
At its core, music is sound, and sound is rooted in vibration. Led by Lee Bartel, PhD, a music professor at the University of Toronto, several researchers are exploring whether sound vibrations absorbed through the body can help ease the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia and depression.
Known as vibroacoustic therapy, the intervention
involves using low frequency sound — similar to a low rumble — to produce
vibrations that are applied directly to the body. During vibroacoustic therapy,
the patient lies on a mat or bed or sits in a chair embedded with speakers that
transmit vibrations at specific computer-generated frequencies that can be
heard and felt, says Bartel. He likens the process to sitting on a subwoofer.
In 2009, researchers led by Lauren K. King of the
Sun Life Financial Movement Disorders Research and Rehabilitation Centre at
Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo, Ontario, found that short-term use of
vibroacoustic therapy with Parkinson's disease patients led to improvements in
symptoms, including less rigidity and better walking speed with bigger steps
and reduced tremors (NeuroRehabilitation, December, 2009).
In that study, the scientists exposed 40
Parkinson's disease patients to low-frequency 30-hertz vibration for one
minute, followed by a one-minute break. They then alternated the two for a
total of 10 minutes. The researchers are now planning a long-term study of the
use of vibroacoustic therapy with Parkinson's patients, as part of a new
partnership with the University of Toronto's Music and Health Research
Collaboratory, which brings together scientists from around the world who are
studying music's effect on health.
The group is also examining something called
thalmocortical dysrhythmia — a disorientation of rhythmic brain activity
involving the thalamus and the outer cortex that appears to play a role in
several medical conditions including Parkinson's, fibromyalgia and possibly
even Alzheimer's disease, says Bartel, who directs the collaboratory.
"Since the rhythmic pulses of music can drive
and stabilize this disorientation, we believe that low-frequency sound might
help with these conditions," Bartel says. He is leading a study using
vibroacoustic therapy with patients with mild Alzheimer's disease. The hope is
that using the therapy to restore normal communication among brain regions may
allow for greater memory retrieval, he says.
"We've already seen glimmers of hope in a case
study with a patient who had just been diagnosed with the disorder,"
Bartel says. "After stimulating her with 40-hertz sound for 30 minutes
three times a week for four weeks, she could recall the names of her grandchildren
more easily, and her husband reported good improvement in her condition."
Taken from "Music as medicine"-Researchers are exploring how music
therapy can improve health outcomes among a variety of patient.
